Belarusian Beauty (Белорусская красавица). Use this charming piece as a fine wine coaster, or a lovely candy dish. The graceful and delicate pattern, and the shape, resembles a crown. Made by hand, not by machine, in the Kazakova workshop of Russia. An outstanding example of filigree craftsmanship that was perfected during the days of Catherine the Great. 99.9% pure silver over copper. 4½" diameter, 2¼" in height.
In Russia, hand made filigree has been celebrated for a long time. Filigree can be found at excavation sites dating back to the 9th century. In 1927, a metal production center was founded in the village of Kazakovo, near Nizhny Novgorod.
