This is the definitive photoalbum, extravagently designed to resemble an antique, of Grand Duchess Ella Fedorova. It consists of 185 photographs, many rare, of amazing quality. Additionally there are rare photos of the Hessian family. It was published for the 90th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Holy Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna by Novospasskiy Monastyr' (Новоспасский Монастырь).
Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia (1864-1918) was a German princess of the House of Hesse-Darmstadt, and the wife of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, the fifth son of Emperor Alexander II of Russia and Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine (Sergei Alexandrovich was governor of Moscow and uncle to Tsar Nicholas II). She was also a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and the older sister of Alexandra, wife of Tsar Nicholas II. Brought up as a Protestant, she converted to Orthodoxy in 1891. Grand Duchess Elizabeth was put to death in Alapaevsk in 1918 at the hands of the Bolshevik regime.
Hardcover, 136 pages, 2007. IN RUSSIAN. Exquisite gold and blue endpapers. Bound in tooled tan imitation leather. Note: the binding has been described as either leather or imitation leather. We tend to favor the latter, until proven otherwise. Some of the edges show chipping and wear, which, to be honest, actually makes the books look even older! Still, overall the binding is in very good condition, and contents are in fine condition. Currently two copies are available.
