Evgenia Diachenko was born and raised in the Orthodox faith. She is culturally Hellenic, with deep ties to her spirituality, strong traditions, values and ethics. Evgenia actively participates in the Hellenic-American diaspora of Chicagoland. She volunteers as educator at Heartland Alliance - a human rights organization which supports immigrants and provides critical resources. She also does volunteer work at the National Hellenic Museum (NMH), where she shares her knowledge of history, art and culture from Antiquity to the Byzantine era. Evgenia holds a master's degree in Educating Adults from DePaul University, and a bachelor's degree in Byzantine Art and Culture, as well as a minor degree in Russian Studies and Literature.
She writes her icons on birch wood boards prepared with layers of gesso, 24K gold leaf, which she applies, and finishes with clear gloss. She also paints on canvas, which she mounts on a board. She likes to paint larger (12x16, for example) icons.
