Ivan-Goroshko (Іван-Гарошка). Katygoroshko is a legendary bogatyr-hero of Kievan Rus', found in Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian folk tales. In Belarus he goes by Pokatygoroshek or Katygoroshek. He also goes by Ivan-Goroshko (Іван-Гарошка).The painting describes the fight between the hero and the Serpent Gorynych. This painted wooden panel was made at the Zhlobin Art Inlay Factory (Жлобинская Фабрика Художественной Инкрустации). Zhlobin (Злобін) is a city on the Dnieper river near Minsk. Made in 1978 when Belarus was officially a part of the Soviet Union. 8¼" x 11¾". The painting is in very good condition with slight signs of use.
The factory produced boxes and wall hangings with straw inlay, chess and checkers, and other souvenir products as well as household goods, such as cutting boards, trays, kitchen sets and bread boxes.
