Tsarevich Ivan meets Elena the Beautiful, the daughter of Tsar Kasym, for the very first time. With the help of the magical Gray Wolf, Tsarevich Ivan captures the Fire-bird, finds a bride in the beautiful Princess Elena, becomes the owner of a faithful steed known as the Horse of Zolotogriva, defeats his envious brothers and, finally, with the help of the witch Baba Yaga, puts the evil Koschei the Deathless to eternal rest.
Papier-mache, egg tempera paints, lacquer. Detailed decorative freehand scroll border in gold. Authentic Palekh. "Made in USSR" in gold in the bottom of the box. Signed and dated 1991 by the artist in gold. 5¾ x 3" x 1⅛". 1 only, as shown.
Anzhela Rustamovna Khamidova (Анжела Рустамовна Хамидова) was born in 1967 in Kazan, Tatarstan (Казань, Татарстан). She studied at the Palekh Art College from 1982-1987 and worked in the Palekh Art and Production Workshops for two or three years it was liquidated in and around 1989-1991. She lives in the village of Palekh, where she still produces, displays and sells at the Masters Fair.
