    Vintage and collectible Matryoshka dolls from the 1960's-1990's can be found here. These include, at any given time, dolls from Moldova, Yoscar (Yoshkar) Ola, Belarus and Ukraine, Poland, Mari El Republic, Perm, Vladimir and the Moscow region and even the occasional Japanese Kokeshi. After all, it was Japanese craftspeople  that first inspired Russian painters and woodworker to make the matryoshka synonymous with their arts and crafts.

    • Mordva (Мордовия) Matryoshka Small Bottle Case, or Holder. This vintage small bottle case, or box, is uncommon in our experience.  Named "Erzyanka", it was produced at the Meltsan Woodworking plant. "Made in USSR" stamp on the bottom. 1980s. In Mordovia, the matryoshka appeared at the Meltsansky district industrial complex. In order to make the dolls, Meltsan workers - who were  soon to become proficient skilled craftspeople - needed to find suitable materials, construct production technology, and to train artists, who were taught by Semyonov and Sergiev Posad artists.
