House (1858-1938) was an American diplomat and influential politician. Davis (1891-1979) was an American sociologist and activist for international peace and social reform. From 1916–1918 he was in Russia with the YMCA setting up YMCA centers for Russian soldiers and working with German POWs . In 1917, he was appointed as head of all YMCA work in Russia.
