The Prophet Oleg (Вещий Олег). Oleg of Novgorod was a Varangian prince who ruled during the late 9th and early 10th centuries. He was a relative (brother-in-law) of the first ruler, Rurik. In the Primary Chronicle, Oleg is known as the Prophet (Вещий) alluding to the sacred meaning of his Norse name ("priest"). He stands with arms folded in contemplation of the final resting place of his faithful steed.
