Boretskaya painting, a Russian folk art craft, is a Northern Russian style of painting on wood, influenced by the Northern school of icon painting. The crafts element arose a couple of centuries ago, in the village of Borok (Борок) in the Shenkur district (Шенкурский уезд) near the Northern Dvina river. Other styles subsequently came to fruition, including “Puchuzhskaya", "Rakulskaya", "Permogorskaya" and “Toyemsky”. These styles are aggregated under the umbrella of "Severodvinsk", i.e., Northern Dvina painting. Similar styles of these folk arts include Archangelsk and Gorodets.
