Archpriest Stefan Lyashevsky (1899-1986) undertook to link information from pre-Christian chronicles of the 9th century and ancient authors with historical biblical archaeology and research data, in order to obtain a complete pre-history of Russia. His work has become a valuable contribution to the study of the formation of the Russian nation. Though not well known, his life was quite interesting in that he knew many ascetics, martyrs and confessors of the 20th century, as well as having interaction with Patriarch Tikhon and Metropolitan (later Patriarch) Sergius. His works were intended for a wide range of readers.
