A.S. Pushkin ( Александр Сергеевич Пушкин -Касли). Cast iron cabinet figure of the iconic monument of Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) the famous Russian poet & author. The bronze original, designed by Russian sculptor Alexander Mikhailovich Opekushin (1838-1923), today stands on Pushkin Square, at the junction of the Boulevard Ring and Tverskaya (it was moved once). Erected on the 6th of June, 1880, Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881) was invited from St. Petersburg and gave his inspirational speech on the genius of Pushkin.
"A.S. Pushkin" (in Russian) on the front side of the pedestal and Kasli "Made in CCCP" (in Russian) and the date 1978. Slightly over 2lbs. 7¼" in height. In very good condition, with some dust (as found), and some minor rust on the base. 1 only, as shown.
Nicely detailed lost-wax casting from the Kasli Iron Works in Yekaterinburg (Ekaterinburg) in the Ural Mountains, Russia. This significant mountain ridge forms the border between Europe and Asia. Kasli casting (named after the town of Kasli) is a metallurgical and metal-working plant which arose on the banks of the river Iset ( Исеть), and was one of the best of its kind in its day.
