Moscow, the city with more than 400 churches, celebrated 850 years in 1997. One of the oldest cities in Russia, it's year of foundation is generally accepted as 1147 when Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy called upon his brother, the Prince of the Novgorod-Severski to "come to me, brother, to Moscow." This is the first record of Moscow in Russian chronicles.
