St. Basil (Собор Василия Блаженного) Filigree. An exquisite Christmas ornament "spun" by hand in the village of Kazakovo. Pure silver over copper and 24Kt gold. It comes in its own blue velvet presentation box and makes a wonderful gift. Ornament is about 2½ "x 1½".
The village of Kazakovo, 230 miles east of Moscow (Vachsky district, Nizhny Novgorod, Volga region), is a center for the artistic processing of metal using the filigree technique. This art was brought here in the 1930s from the village of Krasnoe-on-Volga. Craftsmen have been creating this amazing filigree metalwork, using only scissors and pincers, for almost 80 years.
