Product Description
St. Michael the Archangel (Архангел Михаил) Cross. Michael is accorded the title "Archistrategos", or "Supreme Commander of the Heavenly Hosts." He is depicted with a sword, representing that he is a warrior and defender of the faith, and a crown, which represents his authority over the earth. In Eastern Orthodoxy Michael is revered as a saint.
This exquisite cross was handmade and painted by Andrey Mikhailovich Kotukhin using traditional materials: egg tempera, papier-mache, gold leaf, metallic paints, a squirrel hair brush and several coats of clear lacquer. Kotukhin is a highly acclaimed third-generation artist with his own company workshop in Palekh.
Painted on the back of the cross is a gold colophon. 1½"x 1½". With 20" silver gold plated chain. Gift boxed. 1 only.
