Churches of Bogorodsk. Detailed woodburnt designs go to the last tiny doll. Artistic painting and enhancements include "potal", which is gold and silver foil decoration (the foil is called potal) that imitates gilding and silvering. The centers of each piece have blue sky behind each of the silver cupolas and the maiden enhancements include silver headdresses, lacework and fan designs, plus strategically place small dots. All in all, a lot of care went into this matryoshka.
On the bottom of the first piece the artist has written (in Russian) "Bogorodskoye 7x and 2001". Of note, is that, while Bogorodsk (home of the famous bear carvers and action toys) and Sergiev Posad are neighbors, dolls from Bogorodsk are uncommon. 7 nest, 7½" in height down to tiny. 2001. 1 only.
