Malachite Egg with the Crest of the Tsars. Stunning green malachite egg with a gold-plated crest of the Romanov Tsars. The stone's name derives from Greek Μολοχίτης λίθος i.e., "mallow-green stone". It was given this name because it resembled the leaves of the mallow plant, which is part of a large family of flowering plants, in which well-known members include okra, cotton, and cacao, as well as hollyhock, hibiscus, tree mallow, and the lime or linden tree. Malachite has been worn throughout history for protection from contagious diseases, mental health, success, and steadfast affection.
