Old Testament Holy Trinity (Троица Ветхозаветная). The Holy Trinity shown here was originally written by Russia's most celebrated iconographer, Andrei Rublev (1360-1428). It was commissioned to honor Saint Sergius of Radonezh of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius monastery, near Moscow, in the town of Sergiev Posad.
The icon depicts three winged angels who appear to Abraham. They are seated and gesture towards the chalice in the center of the table. The icon is also known as Abraham's Hospitality. His house, the ancient oak of Mamre, and Mount Moriah are in the background. The blue of the Holy Spirit's robe symbolizes divinity, while the green symbolizes new life.
