Gorodets Decorative Board. Gorodets painting (Городецкая роспись) has its roots in the making and painting of spinning wheels and distaffs. It is a very old and cultured folk art and can range from complex paintings to simple genre scenes, as represented by this classic painted cutting board. The laconic central image of a bright rooster among leaves and flowers is painted freehand. The end result is light and transparent, yet richly colored.

Genuine Russian board, circa 1991. Board is unused. A split in the back side of the board in the wood veneer (see pictures) is contained to the back. Approximately 5¾" x 11⅝". 1 only, as shown.
