Product Description
Golden Filigree Box. This elegant Russian box was made by hand in the village of Kazakovo, near Nihzny Novgorod (formerly the city of Gorky). It is an extraordinary example of filigree design and craftsmanship as was perfected back in the days of Catherine the Great (1762-1796). The pattern is reminiscent of bobbin-lace and the artisans who created this style named it "Dew Drop" (in Russian, "Росинка"). It is hand decorated with tiny round pellets called "seed pearls" ("семенные жемчужины") and capped with a lovely rosette on the lid. The piece has a golden finish. 3"x2"x1¼".
