Samuel Northrup Harper (1882–1943) was an American historian and Slavicist. He was the son of William Rainey Harper (1856–1906), who helped establish both the University of Chicago and Bradley University, and who served as the first president of both institutions. Paul Vincent Harper (1889-1949), also a son of William Rainey Harper, was a trustee of the University from 1941-1949.
From 1904 to 1939, Samuel Harper spent time in pre-revolutionary Russia among the intelligentsia of St. Petersburg and Moscow, and was frequently in Russia, bearing witness to the aftermath of the country's dramatic upheavals. After his father's death, Samuel was instrumental in meticulously sorting and archiving his and his father's work, including records of the founding of the university, the Russian program, and early 20th-century Russian materials.
