Product Description
Classic Winter Scenes (Классические зимние сцены). A fiery troika speeds through the countryside with a young couple. Each horse is a different color. On the second piece, a young Zhaporozhian cossack woos a young maiden as she heads to the well. On the third, a young village girl pauses in the center of the village. Subsequent pieces reveal a very young boy, dressed in classic mid-century Soviet Russia winter clothing, who has begun to build a snowman. The final pieces show a boy riding a sled, a colorful winter bird, and a tiny sprig of winter berries.
The paintings are on a bright yellow background, and are influenced by the styles of traditional Palekh, Fedoskino, and Zhostovo. An elaborate floral painting adorns the backs of each piece. Oher enhancements include "potal" ("поталь"), the gold foil decoration that imitates gilding and simulates lacework.
A single word name is written in gold paint on the bottom of the first piece. 7pcs, handpainted with applied foil. Circa 2000-2010, Odessa. 7¼" down to 1¼". 1 only.
