Vintage SALVO Estonian Folk Costume Peg Dolls. Painted wood. Made in the Salvo Factory during the Soviet period. 4¾" in height, 3" wide at the bottom. Nicely preserved. 1 pair only.
Salvo was a pre-Soviet plastics factory, founded in 1948 as a cooperative artel of handicapped people with 15 workers. Subsequently, several smaller enterprises were added to Salvo, and, in 1959, it became an official factory. By 1961, the factory employed nearly 500 workers. Plastics and wood became the main materials used at the factory. Salvo’s main products included, tableware, small household objects, and toys and souvenirs.
